Tax and Payroll Manager

ROLE SUMMARY 

The Tax and Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing all group tax and payroll compliance and reporting across Australia, Singapore, the United States, and New Zealand. This role ensures the business maintains accuratetimely, and compliant obligations as it transitions toward listing, providing technical leadership in direct and indirect tax, employment tax, and payroll operations. Working closely with the GM Finance, the role drives process integrity, strengthens internal controls, and supports automation and system readiness for the public-company environment. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

1. Taxation (Direct, Indirect, and Cross-Border)

  • Manage all statutory tax compliance obligations across jurisdictions, including income tax, FBT, and payroll-related taxes. 
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns and reconciliations; coordinate filings with local advisors. 
  • Oversee tax provisioning, balance-sheet reconciliations, and disclosures for group and statutory reporting. 
  • Partner with external advisors on complex matters such as transfer pricing, cross-border funding, intercompany recharges, and US/SG tax obligations. 
  • Support corporate structuring, equity, and share-based remuneration tax considerations in preparation for IPO. 
  • Monitor legislative developments in each jurisdiction and communicate impacts to the GM Finance and CFO. 
  • Develop and maintain robust tax governance frameworks consistent with ATO and ASX expectations. 

2. Payroll Management

  • Prepare and oversee end-to-end payroll processing across Australia, Singapore, the US, and New Zealand—ensuring accuracy, compliance, and alignment with local employment laws. 
  • Supervise periodic payroll reconciliations, general ledger postings, and audit support. 
  • Manage superannuation, KiwiSaver, CPF, 401(k), and equivalent schemes, as well as related payroll taxes. 
  • Partner with HR to ensure correct setup of employment contracts, benefits, and equity compensation within payroll systems. 
  • Lead process automation and standardisation across jurisdictions to support scalability and reporting transparency. 

3. Reporting, Controls, and Governance

  • Deliver timely and accurate tax and payroll information into monthly management and statutory reporting. 
  • Support the external audit and ensure all tax and payroll controls meet pre-IPO governance standards. 
  • Prepare board and committee reports on compliance status, key risks, and remediation activities. 
  • Assist in the design and implementation of ASX governance controls in readiness for listing. 
  • Identify and implement continuous-improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy. 

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Degree qualified in Accounting, Commerce, or related discipline 
  • CA/CPA (Australia or equivalent) required; CTA qualification desirable 
  • 7–10 years’ experience in corporate tax and payroll within a complex multi-entity environment (ideally tech or high-growth sector) 
  • Strong technical knowledge of Australian corporate and indirect tax, with working familiarity of Singaporean, US, and NZ compliance frameworks 
  • Experience managing outsourced advisors and payroll providers across multiple jurisdictions 
  • Demonstrated experience implementing automation and payroll/tax system preferred 
  • Exposure to IPO preparation, audit readiness, or public-company reporting standards preferred
