Senior Power Systems SCADA and Controls Engineer

Firmus Technologies

Firmus Technologies is a global leader pioneering the development and operation of efficient AI infrastructure across Asia Pacific.

Founded in Australia in 2019, our mission is to create the most efficient AI infrastructure by combining cutting-edge technology with a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

At Firmus, we are unique in our approach. We design, build, and operate a new class of digital infrastructure – the AI Factory. Through our model-to-grid technology approach, we have pushed
the boundaries of multi-generational liquid cooling systems, energy management, AI software orchestration, and construction. For our customers, this approach allows us to make every watt count and deliver low-cost AI tokens globally.

Through ground-breaking research and development, we invented a verticalized AI Factory - a new class of digital infrastructure that replaces traditional data centres. Built on new approaches to liquid cooling, energy management, water use and modular construction methodology, the Firmus AI Factory delivers low-cost AI tokens across Asia-Pacific.

Firmus AI Cloud

Our large-scale GPU cloud platform, Firmus AI Cloud, is purpose-built to deliver energy-efficient AI compute at scale to customers.

It empowers developers, enterprises, educational institutions, and government users to train and deploy AI models with unmatched efficiency and cost savings. With an ever-growing suite of services and applications, we are committed to delivering a cloud experience that is market-leading, proprietary, and built to scale.

Why you’ll love working here

As an NVIDIA Cloud and Engineering partner in Asia Pacific, you will gain skills, experience, and exposure across the AI industry and be part of shaping what this industry looks like for  decades to come.

We are founder-led, not a big corporate. Decisions happen fast, our leaders are accessible,  and there's minimum bureaucracy between you and the work.

Ownership comes early. Whatever your role, you will have a direct line to outcomes, helping shape how the business grows as we scale nationally across a long-term, large-scale roadmap.

Work alongside founders and experts in AI infrastructure, energy systems  and next-generation compute.

What we build here has impact beyond the business. Our AI Factories are designed to operate as assets to the energy grid to actively strengthen the communities and regions they operate in rather than drawing from them.

Role Summary

Firmus Technologies is seeking a Senior Power Systems SCADA and Controls Engineer to support the SCADA, HMI, telemetry and control systems associated with Firmus’ MV, HV and EHV electrical infrastructure. This is a hands-on technical role for someone with strong power systems SCADA and controls capability who wants to apply those skills in a new and fast-growing infrastructure sector.

Firmus’ Model-to-Grid capability is our approach to operating large AI compute loads as controllable, grid-responsive electrical infrastructure. In practical terms, this means using SCADA, telemetry, signal interfaces, operating limits, runback schemes, ramp-rate controls and HMI visibility to manage how workload responds to grid, network and operational requirements.

This role sits on the power systems controller side of that capability. The successful candidate will help translate TNSP, AEMO and grid connection requirements into practical Firmus-side control schemes, while working with Firmus’ HPC and internal controls teams to integrate those schemes with advanced AI workload management and load control systems.

Prior AI or data centre experience is not essential. What matters is strong power systems SCADA, controls, telemetry and commissioning capability, and an interest in applying those skills to a new class of controllable infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, configure and support the code, control logic, SCADA/HMI screens, telemetry and operator interfaces required to deliver Model-to-Grid power controller functions.
  • Develop and support interfaces for agreed network and protection schemes, including runback triggers, load-reduction commands and Firmus-side controls required to support special protection schemes.
  • Work with grid connections, HPC and internal controls teams to translate power network requirements into practical SCADA, HMI and control logic on Firmus’ side of the connection point.
  • Work with HPC and AI Platform teams to integrate Model-to-Grid control capability with Firmus’ AI compute platform, enabling advanced workload management, load control and grid-responsive operation.
  • Support configuration, testing and commissioning of SCADA, HMI, telemetry and controls for MV/HV/EHV infrastructure and related Firmus-side load control interfaces.
  • Configure and support gateways, RTUs and power system control platforms, directly or through consultants and OEMs as appropriate.
  • Develop practical SCADA/HMI deliverables, including operator screens, alarm structures, point maps, control sequences, operating limits and commissioning records.

Skills & Experience

  • Practical experience in power systems SCADA, HMI, automation, substation control systems or industrial power system controls.
  • Experience with MV, HV or EHV infrastructure, substations, utilities, grid connections,
  • Experience with Ignition SCADA is highly desirable.
  • Experience with SEL relays, SEL RTACs or similar SEL automation/control platforms is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with DNP3, Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC UA, IEC 61850 and industrial Ethernet.
  • Ability to read single line diagrams, protection/control schematics, network drawings, I/O lists, point schedules and functional descriptions.
  • Strong troubleshooting, commissioning support and documentation skills.
  • Interest in applying traditional power systems SCADA and controls experience to a new class of controllable AI infrastructure.
